We collect what we need to teach you and to answer you, and nothing beyond it. This page says exactly what that is, why we have it, how long we keep it, and what you can make us do about it under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Who we are
The Data Fiduciary is Anurag Choubey, a sole proprietor trading as The Knowledge Tree (GSTIN 10AHDPC5941L2ZN), whose principal place of business is B-5, A. G. Colony, Patna, Bihar 800025, operating vidhigurukul.com. Data-protection questions and requests go to our Grievance Officer, whose name and contact details are on the Grievance page.
What we collect, and why
- Your account — name, e-mail address and a password we store only as a cryptographic hash. Needed to give you a login and to let you back into it.
- Your enrolments — which cohorts you have bought. This is what admits you to the right live classroom and shows you the right recordings.
- Payment records — the amount, the date, and the reference our payment gateway returns. We never see or store your card number, CVV, UPI PIN or bank credentials; those go to the gateway directly and stay there.
- Class attendance — a record that you joined a session, and when. Used to run the class, to establish whether a refund request came before your second class, and to tell you what you missed.
- What happens in a live class — if you turn on your camera or microphone, or type in the class chat, that is carried to the other people in the class and may appear in the recording published back to your cohort. You are never required to turn your camera on, and a class you attend with camera and microphone off leaves nothing of you in the recording but your presence in the attendance record.
- Complaints — your name, e-mail address, what you told us, the ticket number and the date. Needed to answer you and to count the complaint in our compliance reporting.
- Team enquiries — your name, work e-mail address, organisation, team size, the courses you are asking about and any message you add. Used only to answer your enquiry and to arrange a private cohort for your organisation, and for nothing else.
- Guests at a sit-in session — your name and e-mail address, when you register for a free sit-in on a live class. Used only to tell you how to join that one session and, if you turn on your camera or microphone during it, seen by the other people in that class the same way an enrolled learner’s would be. A guest never submits a document for review and never sees another learner’s work.
- E-mail we send you — enrolment receipts, class reminders, ticket confirmations. Sent through a transactional e-mail provider, which necessarily receives your address in order to deliver to it.
- Cookies — a session cookie so you stay logged in, and the cookies WordPress itself sets to make a logged-in site work. No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, no data broker, and nothing that follows you off this site.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. We do not build advertising profiles from what you study or how you perform, and we do not pass your details to another coaching business.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you have the right to:
- Access (section 11) — a summary of the personal data of yours we are processing and what we are doing with it.
- Correction and erasure (section 12) — to have it corrected, completed, updated or erased.
- Grievance redressal (section 13) — to complain to us, with the 48-hour and one-month timetable on the Grievance page.
- Nomination (section 14) — to nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or become incapable of exercising them.
- Withdraw consent (section 6) at any time, as easily as you gave it.
Send any of these to the Grievance Officer. You may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India; you do not have to come to us first.
One honest limit: while you are enrolled in a running cohort, we cannot erase the enrolment record itself without ending your access to the class you paid for — so a request to erase that particular record is treated as a request to withdraw, and the refund policy applies. Everything else is erasable on request.
How long we keep it
- Account and enrolment records: while your account is open. Ask us to close it and we delete it, keeping only what tax and accounting law obliges us to keep.
- Payment records: for the period the tax and accounting laws require, and no longer.
- Class recordings: for the cohort that attended, while their access lasts. A student who asks to be edited out of a recording, or who does not want to appear in one, should tell us — we will remove the segment or the recording.
- Complaints: until the complaint is resolved and reported, and then for as long as we might need it if the matter is reopened. Complainants are never named in a published compliance report.
- Attendance records: for the life of the cohort and the refund window that follows it.
- Team enquiries: until we have answered and, if no cohort follows, 12 months after that.
- Guests at a sit-in session: until the session has taken place, and then for 30 days in case you ask us a question about it, after which the registration is deleted.
Where a law requires a longer retention than the above, we keep it for that period and no longer.
Who else sees it
Only the processors that make the service work: the payment gateway that takes your money, the transactional e-mail provider that delivers our mail, and the hosting on which our own site and classroom run. Each gets only what it needs for that job. No advertising platform, no analytics vendor, no data broker, and nobody who wants the list for their own purposes.
The faculty teaching your cohort see who is in their class, as any teacher does.
Children
These are professional courses intended for adults. We do not knowingly enrol a child or process a child’s personal data. If you believe we have, tell the Grievance Officer and we will delete it.
If something goes wrong
If personal data we hold is breached, we will notify the Data Protection Board of India and every affected person, as the Act requires. We will tell you what was taken and what to do about it, not merely that an incident occurred.
Changes
This page is dated. If it changes materially the date changes and the change is described. We will not quietly widen the purpose of data already collected — that means asking you again.
